Carl and Marjory Hertz Biography

Carl Hertz, attended Iowa State during the Depression majoring in Animal Husbandry. While on campus he worked in the meat lab for 35 cents an hour, was on the national champion livestock judging team, and was a member of FarmHouse Fraternity. Marjory lived and worked with the family of the Dean of Home Economics during her studies at Iowa State. She also worked in the experimental rat laboratory for 25 cents per hour. She played the cello in the Iowa State College Symphony and graduated in 1935 with a degree in Home Economics and Nutrition.

In 1946, Carl and Marjory decided to farm the family farm southeast of Nevada. Carl did agricultural consulting on the side, which led to the founding of Hertz Farm Management. Since then the company has grown to become one of the largest farm management, real estate, and rural appraisal firms in the United States.
