CALS celebrated our 724 graduating undergraduate students during CALS convocation on May 12 in Hilton Coliseum. Our more than 65 graduating master's and doctoral students were celebrated during a ceremony the evening of May 11. See more graduation photos

A DEGREE 50 YEARS IN THE MAKING

Owen Dykshorn was called to serve in the Vietnam War his senior year of college. After discovering last fall he was only seven credits away from graduation, he decided to return to Iowa State to complete his ag studies degree. He had the honor of graduating this semester alongside his grandson, Charlie. More

A PURSUIT OF ANSWERING QUESTIONS VIA RESEARCH

Abby Fowler, microbiology, fostered her research passion through working in Iowa State labs. She joined Donald Sakaguchi’s lab her freshman year and advanced to mentoring younger students. With graduate school as her next step, she hopes to continue sharing science with others, either through community science outreach or written media. More

Vincent Vanyo, microbiology, has had several research experiences that have allowed him to study microorganisms from various perspectives. These include analyzing non-thermal food treatment methods, performing insecticidal trait discovery in soil, and exploring the science behind brewing beer. More

RODRIGUEZ APPOINTED INTERIM DIRECTOR OF SEED SCIENCE CENTER

CALS BBQ SCHEDULED FOR SEPT. 2 IN AMES

Save the Date: CALS Alumni BBQ Saturday, Sept. 2, 2023

Plan to join the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences for our CALS BBQ on Saturday, Sept. 2, 2023, at the Jeff and Deb Hansen Agriculture Student Learning Center in Ames. The event will take place prior to the Iowa State vs. University of Northern Iowa football game. This annual event welcomes all CALS alumni and friends to enjoy fellowship and learn about new college initiatives. BBQ invitations will be sent electronically this summer as more details become available.

IOWA STATE HELPED ALUMNA REALIZE SHE WAS IN THE DRIVER'S SEAT OF HER EDUCATION PATHWAY

Brittini Brown ('09 MS industrial and ag technology) still uses valuable lessons learned at Iowa State in her position as associate vice president for student affairs at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. One lesson Iowa State taught her that she will never forget is to make your education and career your own. More

ALUMNA HEADED TO THE ARMY VETERINARY CORPS

Rachel Farr ('19 biology) has successfully juggled veterinary school and serving in the Army following graduation from Iowa State. She has gained clinical experience at Lackland Air Force Base, where working dogs in the military receive their basic training. This fall, she will begin serving in the Army Veterinary Corps alongside fellow veterinary corps officers. More

Rachel Zumbach ('21 ag and life sciences education - communication option, international ag) helps farmers share their stories with the world through her role as the public relations manager for Iowa Corn. She enjoys sharing stories and starting conversations with consumers about agriculture to help them learn about the role agriculture and its byproducts play in their everyday lives. More
